Written by: Lee Callaghan

During a recent performance with the Black Creek Youth Initiative, Executive Director Destin Bujang noted of Gem Shadou; “At the Community Through Music Event, funded by the City of Toronto, which brought our vibrant community together through music and art, Gem Shadou was the crowd’s favorite amongst twelve distinguished performances.”

Referring to 12-year-old twins, Cece and Joce, this duo known as Gem Shadou is branching past their Toronto roots and aiming for National recognition. With the success of their first two releases, The Crappy Song, and What’s Going On, the pair are set to release their follow-up single; I’m Alive in June 2021.

Throughout their young careers, Gem Shadou has been remembered and noticed for their remarkably mature outlook towards this business. Remaining humble in the face of praise, Cece and Joce realize this is only the beginning, and look for opportunities to improve and help mentor others deep into their teenage years.

The diverse duo, Gem Shadou, is entwining their love of Reggae, Ska, Rock, and Soca to create a sound unique to this Canadian market and beyond. Equipped with her guitar, piano, and ukulele, Cece and Joce are now taking part in the Canadian group, Girl Pow-r pop star trainee series. Utilizing this event as a learning experience, these two bright artists strive to nab more skills, network, and continue to have fun with music.

Their love for performance has allowed Gem Shadou to reach out to their community and peers, to tackle social issues which are becoming prevalent in their lives. Through art, these growing pressures are communicated through poise and clarity helping those around them.
